    With the number of horses in the United States greater today than in the days they were used for transportation, the art of the good Farrier is more in demand now than ever. There are over 9 million horses in the U.S. that are used for recreation, which has made the industry primed for a person who enjoys working with horses, desires a career in which you can be your own boss, and is willing to learn.

PUTTING YOU ON THE RIGHT TRACK ~
SIX-WEEK HORSESHOEING COURSE

Just as thousands of other students have, you too, can begin your career after only six weeks of training from the Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School. During the Monday through Friday class sessions, you will learn step-by-step basic horseshoeing including:

  • The anatomy of the horse’s foot
  • Shoeing the straight and sound horse
  • Corrective and specialized shoeing
  • Horse behavior management
  • Forge work
  • Advertising and business practices

(10 hours a week of after school hour practice, forge work, etc. is mandatory to meet class requirements.)

In learning the fundamentals of setting up your own horseshoeing business, you will learn the industry’s supply-and-demand cycle, how to maintain business records, and how to make a good living as a farrier.

At OSHS, we prepare our students to be self-employed. We do have a classe on how to start your business and clientele. We also havea classe on bookkeeping. We do not offer job placement.
ADMISSION REQUIREMENTS, PREREQUISITES, AND POLICY FOR PREVIOUS TRAINING

Any student, who is physically capable, of normal intelligence, at least 16 years of age and not under the jurisdiction of any secondary school is eligible for enrollment. When applicable, students need to bring a copy of their high school diploma or GED. A school official will determine true capabilities of the student by interviewing those students who do not meet these requirements. Previous horseshoeing training or education does not count towards graduation requirements at OSHS. To enroll, download and complete the application found on this website and return with the deposit of $250.00. A confirmation letter and receipt will be sent to you by postal mail. The balance owed to the school is due before the student begins class the first day.
