Our mission at OSHS is and always has been to train students in the art and science of the farriery and blacksmithing industry. Surrounded by a friendly and professional atmosphere, we strive to prepare our students to be self-employed contributing individuals with high values of honesty and integrity.
TRAINING THAT MAKES A DIFFERENCE…

The quality training that Oklahoma State Horseshoeing School (OSHS) offers starts at the top with founder Reggie Kester and his wife Marcella. Our founder Reggie Kester passed away in December of 2008. Although Reggie is no longer with us, Regan and Marcella continue to run the school under the same high standards. As one of the premier farriers in the U.S., Reggie was one of  the only Oklahoma farrier school founders to be Journeyman Certified by the American Farriers Association, the highest certification level in the United States. He was also certified as a Master Educator by the Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association (BWFA) and was inducted into its Hall of Fame. His professional reputation was earned through his research and development of specialized horseshoeing methods as well as his commitment to sharing this expertise in a trade traditionally known for closely held secrets. A former member of the board of directors of the Oklahoma Farriers Association, he was also a member of the Texas Professional Farriers Association, the Missouri Farriers Association, the Registry of Professional Farriers Educators Association, the Brotherhood of Working Farriers Association, American Farriers Association, and held position of President of the American Farriers Education Council. Reggie was invited by the U.S. Navy to instruct their personnel in the Philippines. In his time of shoeing, few matched his speed. His techniques have been passed on to the current instructors of OSHS. Furthermore, his years of shoeing and teaching experience have guaranteed a fine-tuned program featuring:
  • Small class sizes, up to 22 students per session
  • Hands-on training with an abundance of horses
  • Nationally certified instructors for individualized instruction and supervision
To ensure continuity, classes are closed after the session starts so that there are not students beginning every Monday. The curriculum teaches all types of normal, corrective, and specialized shoeing giving students the opportunity to select a general practice or to specialize in specific horseshoeing needs. To support students’ learning styles, the program employs a variety of teaching methods such as videotapes, outside consultants, and supervised hands-on experience. As a graduate of the program, you may also return for a refresher course (for one day or for the entire class) at no extra charge.
